2003: The first commercial IoT devices were introduced, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and sensors.

2008: The number of connected devices surpassed 1 billion.

2012: The first smart cities were built, using IoT technology to collect and analyze data to improve urban infrastructure.

2015: The number of connected devices surpassed 5 billion.

2018: The first 5G networks were launched, providing the high-speed connectivity needed for massive IoT deployments.

2023: The number of connected devices is expected to surpass 30 billion.
